The HÙNG KINGS in MYTHICAL times.
The Story:
“Lac Long Quan married Au Co, a fairy… [and she gave birth] to 100 sons. It was hard for them to remain together forever. Thus Au Co took 50 of their sons to the mountains, while the 50 others followed Lac to coastal regions. They established villages and became ancestors of the Viet people. The oldest among Au Co’s followers was elevated to the status of king, called FIRST HÙNG KING.”

“According to archaeological discoveries, about several thousand years ago, from caves … it can be seen that ancient Viet people lived here. They used stone to craft basic tools like … stone axes.”
"Thus from this time, the ancient Viet people had come down to explore the deltas … With their skillfulness, intelligence and creativity, they domesticated wild plants into crops and replaced roughly chipped stone tools with metal ones. A new civilization was budding.”
“The HÙNG KINGS named their country Van Lang.”

In 2014, I photographed the Hung Kings ceremony and subsequent festival at the Hung Vuong temple, in the fishing village on Vung Tau Island. The highest officials and elders from Baria Vung Tau attended.
